I’ve been involved with the Northern District Youth Council since its inception and despite the ups and downs and the difficultly of maintaining group interest and momentum, there are still a few people who come out to be a part of it.
Occasionally, we manage to organize activities and the Donate to Haiti fund was such an occasion. We placed boxes in several Portsmouth shops and when we saw, upon collection, that they hadn’t yielded much, we went door to door to visit most of the town’s shopkeepers to see if we could get some donations of dry goods. While most people turned us away I must see we saw some amazing generosity, often from the smaller shops who had more to lose, and we are incredibly grateful for the contributions.
We ended up with a couple of boxes of stuff to be added to a national collections.
