Men’s quarters

I am a feminist… by no means a die hard one but still… woman power!!

Sorry, had to get that out of the way.

So this is a picture of the men’s and ceremonial quarters at the Kalinago village. Kalinago men were allowed 3 Karifunas or women, except for the chief who could have 12. The women and the children slept in one place and the men hung out in this place.

It’s made out of dry grass, set in skillful and intricate designs. Nowadays men and women can mingle and this example is used to stage performances of the Kalinago cultural group.
